ALEF, a performance by Mystorin Theatre
takes place in the former building of the National Library in Jerusalem
A space that once held the treasures of knowledge
now becomes a timeless realm of spiritual search and inner revelation
The performance explores the library as a mystical and infinite space
where the primal symbols of the Hebrew letters form a treasure of spiritual meaning
a source of life-giving and revitalizing energy
Inspired by the writings of Rabbi Abraham Abulafia
who saw the letters as a force of creation
and a bridge to divine consciousness
The performance also draws from Borges' story
"The Aleph"
where a single point contains all others
all times
all visions in the universe
The library becomes a metaphor for this Aleph
a place where everything is already contained in its very being
inviting the audience to enter the depths of meaning
into the hidden
into the inner book written within each of us
in a world that has lost harmony and clarity
the performance extends a personal invitation
to create a different world
one born from listening to the letters inscribed in the heart
In this context
the stained glass windows by Mordechai Ardon
which adorn the reading hall
carry the verse from Isaiah:
"And they shall beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks
nation shall not lift up sword against nation
neither shall they learn war anymore"
These windows link the ancient prophecy of peace
to the turbulent reality of our times
Similarly, the performance offers a moment of illumination in a time of darkness
a journey of spirit
of sound
of letter
and of silence filled with meaning
I didn’t expect ALEF — because there’s nothing like it, and there never has been.
It’s a must-experience for anyone who values theater and philosophy.
A free, unbound journey, evoking the feeling of a living museum that peers into different universes.
